Our
GeoMother™ and GeoFather™ wallcharts
Your DNA was passed down to you from your parents, half from
your mother and half from your father, and it contains information
from every generation that lived before you. It forms an unbroken
genetic chain, connecting you to your prehistoric ancestors.
We are able to trace your ancestry back along either of two
direct routes – one along your mother’s line and
the other along your father’s line.
You can choose to trace your mother’s line using our
GeoMother™ service. This examines your mitochondrial
DNA. This type of DNA is passed down from mother to child
and is present in everybody, so this service is available
to both males and females.
Our GeoFather™ service allows you to trace your father’s
line. This service uses DNA from the Y chromosome, which is
passed down from father to son and so is only present in males.
However, any females who wish to learn about their paternal
lineage can do so by sending us a DNA sample from a close
male blood relative, such as their father or a brother.
Whichever of our services you choose to use, you will need
to send us a sample of your DNA. Obtaining this sample is
an extremely simple procedure which you can perform yourself
in the security of your own home. It is quick, perfectly safe
and totally painless. We will send you an easy-to-use kit
containing a mouth swab for you to gently rub against the
inside of your cheek. Then all you have to do is press the
swab against the special card supplied and return the card
to us in the envelope we give you. We will then encode your
card with an identifying number (your name will be removed
to protect your privacy) and pass it to our testing laboratory
at the University of London.

By analysing your DNA we can identify key genetic markers,
which we then compare to our database of genetic information
taken from thousands of men and women living all across the
planet. To give us a precise understanding of your ancestral
background, we also examine your DNA’s genetic microsatellites.
By taking all this information and combining it with the latest
scientific research into the peopling of the world, we can
show exactly how your personal family history is descended
from the very earliest journeys of humanity.
The details of your ancestral lineage will be presented to
you on a personalised, A3-sized (16” x 11”) wallchart,
bearing your name and a scan of the actual DNA sequence used
to identify your genetic ancestry. The text will describe
the progress of your own ancestors as early modern humans
began to migrate out of our ancient African motherland and
the human race gradually divided and re-divided into numerous
different lineages. The physical journeys your ancestors made
will be clearly illustrated on a specially drawn map accompanying
this text. Also depicted on this map will be a series of pie-charts
showing how frequently people who share similar ancestry to
your own (your “genetic cousins”) are found in different
countries today. Below the map, your wallchart will identify
the genes that distinguish your own genetic line and illustrate
how your particular ancestral heritage fits into the vast
family tree that ultimately unites the human race.
Your high-quality wallcharts will come already supplied with
a frame and will be printed on Lyson
paper, using specialist Lyson
inks to ensure that you can pass this family heirloom on to
future generations.
