Professor
Simon M Cutting
Simon is a Reader in Molecular Microbiology at the School
of Biological Sciences, Royal Holloway, University of London.
Simon obtained his PhD from Oxford University, UK in 1986
in microbial genetics. Following this he spent 6 years at
Harvard University, USA, as a post-doctoral fellow working
on microbial differentiation in the laboratory of Professor
Richard Losick at the Biological Labs. Simon then became an
Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Microbiology at the University
of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1992 and directed his
own research program investigating the control of gene expression
during spore formation in the Gram-positive bacterium. In
1996 he returned to England and set up his research group
at the Royal Holloway. In 2003 Simon became Head of Biomedical
Sciences in the School of Biological Sciences. His research
interests cover the control of gene regulation in bacteria
and the development of oral vaccines.
